For Gimp, maybe try Edit-->Preferences-->Themes (if this exists).
No settings there in the GUI, but I browsed the app dirs and found
three rc files containing font settings:
Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/etc/gimp/2.0/gtkrc
Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/share/gimp/2.0/themes/Leopard/gtkrc
("Leopard" is the default theme here)
The latter one contains two "font_name" (!) numeric parameters which
actually control the size of fonts used in menus and some other parts
of the GUI (e.g. the tool settings labels), while the other two gtkrc
files - or maybe just the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 one - control some other minor
font sizes, e.g. the titles of the panels (Layers, Brushes...).
So case closed for Gimp it seems, sorry if this has gone off-topic
here but I think that will be useful for others.
