I see something similar. My (iMac) display is 1050 pixels high and
when I display an image taller than the screen, XV reduces it to 1028
pixels.
I'm using fvwm1, though. For me, the image is properly aligned at the
bottom of the screen. The window's title bar is off the top of the
screen and behind the Mac menu bar.
It seems to be completely a XV problem. If I hit the maximize button on
any fvwm title bar, it does the right thing and uses the whole screen
below the Mac menu bar.
I have no clue what the work-around is, but I thought I'd chime in.
