export TERM=xterm-color
export CLICOLOR=1
export LSCOLORS=exfxcxdxbxegedabagacad
See the man page for the ls command for information about the latter two environment variables.

Subject: displaying color depending on type of file in X11 xterm
Hello,
How do I enable color typing files? What I mean is that when I do an ls
by default a directory will have a different colors versus a file. Or
the a .c file will have different color versus an executable file.
If this is possible, where can I make this setting possible?
Thanks!
