Do you mean Gimpshop, a variant of The Gimp that has

You still need X11. Supposedly there's a version
that runs in 10.5, but I can't find it.
The originators of the thread may have been referring
to this when they said "a gimp photoshop type".
I wasn't aware it was out there, since I find the Gimp
interface much more usable and familiar than Photoshop.
I may be more adaptive than most folk though, since I
got used to using half dozen different image processing
and paint program interfaces on Amiga years before
Photoslop was an available product. :-)

can i obtain a gimp photoshop type for a mac computer?
Gimp is readily available for Mac OSeX and a pre-packaged
"gimp.app" version can be downloaded from here:
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
You may need to download a slightly older version than 2.6,
depending on your processor and OSeX version. (I just used
version 2.2.11 this evening on this eMac, a G4 PPC with
OSeX 10.4).
To run the program, you will need to have Apple's X11.app
utility installed on your system, normally located in
Applications/Utilities on your system disk. Though the X11
app is provided on all OSeX system install disks, Apple
does not install this by default and you may need to install
it from your system disks. Some comprehensive instructions
for installing both X11 and Gimp can be found here:
http://darwingimp.sourceforge.net/guides/install_leopard/
There is also a lighter and limited adaptation of gimp called
Seashore that runs on the Mac without using X11. If you
are only needing very basic image editing, this may be all
you want and it can be freely downloaded at:
http://seashore.sourceforge.net/
A final note is that the list you contacted here is meant
to be used for discussions of the X11 environment itself,
so if you need more help with gimp issues beyond what is
provided above you should probably do some web searches
or check the gimp.org resources.
Hope That Helped!
