Please report these issues, or they won't get fixed. What's the crash
you are experiencing.

I have a mac 10.5 leopard, and I had a lot of problems running some
legacy 8 bit color depth X11 client software using Xorg's X11. I
found that the Xfree86's version of X11 worked much better for my
particular situation (particularly Xfree86 version 4.7 vs 4.3).
Also, Xorg's X11 seemed to crash occasionally, and using Xfree86's
XDarwin I have had no crashes. In the long run Xorg's X11 will
probably surpass Xfree86's version of X11, but for now Xfree86's
version works best for me.

Yeah, but that one is ancient compared to what's in MacPorts now.
If you want to pull in an X server from MacPorts, you should use
'xorg-server' instead of 'xfree86'

You can get a newer (4.7.0) version of Xfree86's X11, which may
work better than the one from apple.com, which I believe is
version 4.3.0. To get this, download the macports utility, then in
terminal type: "port install xfree86". Then copy the XDarwin.app
application from /usr/X11/bin to /Applications. Then run XDarwin
to get X11
You may need to move /usr/X11 to /usr/X11.apple before running the
port command.
If the port of Xfree86 does not compile (it builds it from the
source code) then you may need to download the latest version of
Xcodes from the Apple Developer site.
