Keyboard grab/focus problem

So, I was using X11 (2.3.2.1). I was spliting my time between a bunch
of Xterms, X11-enabled Emacs, and a couple of Perl TK applications.
I'm using fvwm for my window manager.
I did something in one of the PTK applications and it grabbed keyboard
focus and kept it. I could type into that app, but when moved the mouse
over one of the Xterm or Emacs windows, the cursor remained "outlined"
and I couldn't type anything. I quit the PTK applications, but I never
could type into any other X window until I quit X11.app and restarted
it. Frustrating.
This happens to me once a month or so. I'm not sure this is a XQuartz
problem. It's a Perl TK problem most probably. But I thought I'd ask
here since you guys probably know the answers to my questions: Is there
a X application that I can use to see where my keystrokes go or who has
focus? Is there a way to reset keyboard focus when this happens?
Thanks!
