Ok, so there are reasons why glxgears didn't display, and we can get
into that if you want (or you can just use ssh like I suggested), but
the real issue here is that the application you are running (paraview)
is not an X11 application.
It's an X11 app on other architectures, but based on the messages that
are displayed, it wasn't built that way for OSX. It's trying to use the
native windowing system.

This isn't an issue for an apple discussion list. You need to goto
forums or a list for paraview.
