Dear X11 Users,
I am experiencing trouble with modifier keys in XQuartz[1], and did
not find any matching symptoms in the mailing list FAQ, in the
mailing list archive, nor in the Trac bug system. Any piece of
advice would be much appreciated.
I am successfully running a window manager in XQuartz, in full
screen mode, on the localhost (no XDMCP involved), however the
window manager is irresponsive to key shortcuts. Here is the various
diagnostics I made:
- the xev(1) program responds correctly to each key, including
modifiers key (including the alt key and the apple key): keycodes
and keysyms are properly printed, and the modifiers are not `stuck'
and do not repeat;
- emacs(1) (a gtk toolkit version) responds correctly to the various
APPLE+x commands (M-x in Emacs'slang);
So it looks like it's your WMs ...
- I also noticed, in the startx output, the following line:
(EE) XKB: Couldn't open rules file /usr/X11/share/X11/xkb/rules/base
(twice) indeed, there is no such a directory as /usr/share/X11/xkb
on my system.
That's expected.
I could not dig `the' X.0.log file since I have no idea where it
lies on the mac.
There is none. You just need to look for it in /var/log/system.log if
you start normally or use the stderr/stdout of startx.
