Further to below, I can now add that this happens even when the MB's
not been to sleep (although its display has). Most frustrating. M

floating point exception
I do have a strace of when it fails if that's any use.
I should also say, I'm logged in to a remote machine with DISPLAY
back to the Mac and running xxdiff on that remote machine. (It's not
the remote machine/xxdiff nor the files since when I restart X11 I
can run xxdiff remotely on the same files and it then works...)

What is the exact output? Is it a crash? Incorrect rendering?

Despite upgrading to 10.5.7 and xquartz 2.3.3.2 recently I still
get a 'floating point exception' error occasionally when I to open
certain X apps (xxdiff in particular)... anybody seen & solved this?
thanks, michael
