Install the 10.5.8 Combo Update, then install 2.4.0 again.
You borked your system by installing the old X11User.pkg on top of the
already updated X11User.pkg

Hi
I've a Powerbook G4 which runs Leopard 10.5.8. Couple of days ago I
installed XCode tools and then X11 from the Leopard DVD (it's the
original one which I bought few months after Leopard was released).
Since then, I can't use X11 properly. At first, I was able to open an
Xterm using /Applications/Utilities/X11.app - but, the key inputs
were
not being displayed. I could open an xterm from my terminal, but any
keystrokes on the xterm will appear on the terminal itself, and not
on
the new xterm. The same problem occurred when I did ssh tunneling to
remote machines - I could start GUI-based applications (say for
example Netbeans) on a remote CentOS server - but I couldn't input
anything on that UI from my keyboard - again everything will pop up
on
the local terminal.
I've tried removing and re-installing X11, nothing happened. Today, I
installed XQuartz (2.4.0), and now, the X11 icon blinks few times and
nothing happens after that. I checked the console, and this is what's
on it -

I thought DISPLAY is not required to be set on Leopard - then why is
it complaining about the DISPLAY? And further, I can't see any
.xinitrc on my home directory.
Please - can anyone help me with this? I need to be able to use ssh
tunneling to other nodes and use GUI-based apps on them.
Regards
Arijit
