Try put 'DefaultDepth 8' into

    Section "Screen"
    EndSection

and 'Visual "PseudoColor"' into

    SubSection "Display"
    EndSubSection


(Precaution is worthy while running Linux on Apple hardware;  e.g.
on PowerBooks the cooling control is provably wrong.  Luckily the
machine seems to go automatically off by hardware if heating becomes
critical.)
