Hi Tom,

There really isn't anything different about 2.3.4 compared to 2.3.3 with respect to the font handling.

The fact that it's a BadValue message makes me think this might be a 64bit issue. Did you rebuild exmh after updating to SL? If so, it's probably a 64bit binary now. Do you have your old 32bit binary around to try if that's the case? If you're using the old 32bit version, then I'm at a bit of a loss without seeing more information. Can you give me information on how you built this binary, so I can try reproducing it (fink, macports, website, by hand, etc...)?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Since updating to SL (now on 10.6.1), I have found that my favorite
mail program (exmh) crashes with this:

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
Value in failed request: 0xe000ea
Serial number of failed request: 8416
Current serial number in output stream: 8417

anytime it tries to display a message specifying "charset=UTF-8" in
Content-Type. (The "value in failed request" varies, as of course
do the serial numbers.)

While I'm prepared to believe this is an exmh bug, I have never seen
this behavior before in many years of using this program. So there's
something different about 2.3.4 compared to any previous Xquartz
release. Any suggestions where to look or how to work around this?
Has anyone else seen comparable misbehavior?
