No, you just have to rename your "Michael's Home" partition so that it doesn't have spaces and single quotes in the name.

No, you shouldn't have to copy anything. Just rename the partition and change the setting in the Accounts pane of System Preferences, while logged in as a different user (could be root).
I had thought that the procedure to move home directories was still complicated in Leopard (and Snow Leopard), but apparently that's not the case.
