This is with version 251 of xterm (and 2.5.1 ships with the most recent version, 261). The crash indicates that this is a memory management issue with the scrollback. It's possible that this bug was fixed in a newer version, but I am not certain. I looked through the ChangeLog and didn't see anything between version 251 and 261 addressing memory management in the scollback.
David, my recommendation is to just update and see if the bug reproduces with the current version.
Tom, have you addressed a crash in this area lately?

When it crashes, I've previously run an application that does simple text graphics (specifically I'm booting up a CD image in a simulator on a serial console, and using the syslinux menu system). My xterm windows where I haven't done this run just fine. The windows where I've done this crash randomly at some point later, it appears from the trace that it is while it is processing scrolling. I'm assuming it's being triggered by some of the escape sequence processing.
