Do you mind downloading ParaView? Unfortunately, it's huge. You can get it from here: http://www.paraview.org/paraview/resources/software.html
I can always generate the error with this software as well. I'll send you a simple data file as well off list if it will help. Besides glxgears, I know of no other standard GL program.
Honestly, I can't remember which XQuartz I had on here before I upgraded. Is there an easy way to tell? I never had these crashes before, that's for certain, but I only recently started work on OpenGL applications again and was straight X for the longest time...
