I found xnest and xephyr failed under 2.5.0_beta2 (and with 2.3.4)
using 10.6.2 and decided to go back to 10.5.8 where xephyr in 2.4.0
works. I'm glad there is someone who is still trying since it is
inevitable that some version of Snowleopard will become the default.
I need to have stable platforms for the upcoming experimental run so
I will stop "upgrading" until at least September 2010.

Please file a bug report at http://xquartz.macosforge.org ... I may
need to roll back the version of the server used for Xnest and
family.
