I have not installed 2.5.0_rc1 yet on my Macbook Pro yet, and
probably won't be able to until the weekend as I can't afford to
tackle issues until then.
What I have found using an external Hyundai 24in 1920x1200
monitor with DVI input when I'm at my desk with the main screen
closed, is that if I don't restart X11 after switching it doesn't
handle the screen geometry correctly. If I go from the Macbook
screen to the Hyundai from sleep or vice-versa, X11 doesn't
position multiple xterms properly vertically. I use clusterssh
to open 20 xterms to different Linux systems I monitor which
cascade nicely from a freshly started X11. If I started X11 on
the Macbook monitor, put it to sleep, start on the external, then
start the clusterssh it doesn't recognize the additional vertical
space available.
To make things more intersting, I am running clusterssh on a
remote Linux box accessed from the Mac's X11 using a command
like ``ssh -Y email@hidden xterm -e csmenu'' from the Mac's
X11 xterm where csmenu is a python/curses menu program I wrote
that is my handy way to execute anything in my ~/lbin directory.
The clusterssh program is a perl::Tk script which executes
multiple xterms via ssh to the remote systems. It is not a
problem with the remote perl::Tk routing not getting screen size
change info as I always shut that connection down before putting
the Macbook Pro to sleep. One thing I have not tried doing is
opening a new xterm in the running X11, and executing the
commands from it to see if it gets new size information on
startup while an open xterm does not.
I have to plead ignorance in how X11 handles display geometry in
one screen, much less multiple monitors.
