It's supposed to be; XQuartz for SL installs in a different place
from the OS distributed X11, so it won't be trashed by system
updates. (Hopefully. There've been some glitches, which is why
Jeremy waited for the latest SL update before finalizing 2.5.0.)
Yes, I've been living with side-by-side X11.apps from MacPorts,
XQuartz, and Apple since October, but the required changes didn't land
in an Apple SU until today.
For those still on Leopard, you'll pretty have to always reinstall the
latest bits after a SU. During the Leopard SU period, we learned how
painful this was which is why I decided to go a different / safer
route for SnowLeopard.
I'm in the process of building and testing final 2.5.0 builds now.
Stay tuned.
