If you're really desperate to change the behaviour of the Insert key,
you might be able to use Ukelele (http://scripts.sil.org/ukelele) to
tweak the keyboard layout so the Insert key sends some other code that
isn't intercepted by the OS. Then you can use xmodmap to have X11
interpret the resulting keycode the way you want.
Be careful, though: Don't change the system keyboard layout, but copy
it and change the copy instead. If you mess up the system keyboard
layout you may end up being unable to log in to your computer. I am
told this is a bad thing to have happen to you. Put the copy in
~/Library/Keyboard Layouts/ and log out and back in to be able to use
it.
I use a home tweaked Norwegian keyboard layout myself. I recommend it,
though getting started takes a bit of work.
