X color picker?
X color picker?

The program "xcolors" (not xcolor, which is indeed 8-bit/256 color only)
exists, which purports to show swatches of every color in rgb.txt, although
it doesn't do a good job of laying them out, to put it mildly, nor do I
remember where I got it.
I'm sure I've seen a better one somewhere, that was scrollable.
There's bound to be a color picker with GNOME and/or KDE desktops,
probably in the MacPorts stuff somewhere.
Googling around a bit found me
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X11_color_names
which, in addition to showing a bunch of X11 colors and their RGB values,
had a link at the bottom to
http://gidden.net/tom/2006/08/04/x11-color-list-for-macosx/
which in turn led me to look for
http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/OtherTuts/MacColorPicker/MacColorPicker.html
the combination of which (after creating /Library/Colors and putting one of the .clr files in it)
gives me a purely Mac (non-X11) color picker that can show me the X11 colors, if I choose
the newly added palette.
So don't give up - whatever sort of solution you want is bound to be out there somewhere,
you just have to figure out the right search terms. :-)
