click as my mouse already right clicks. On a related note; why does control-click bring up a contextual menu in x-term but not a right click? Right click works in other apps. I am using the stock X11 in OS X 10.7.2
Because that's how xterm works — everywhere. Right click is a convention in newer window/desktop managers, including Windows, OS X, Gnome and KDE, all of which provide their own native terminal emulators; but xterm dates from an earlier time, and treats all unmodified clicks as selects of various kinds.
If you really want to change this, there are things you can do with its translations resource. I'm not sure I recommend it, though; leaving aside consistency with xterm on other platforms (unless you carry your ~/.Xresources file around with you consistently), Xt (the old X11 toolkit that xterm is based on) translations are not especially pleasant to work with.
