I'm sure you've all heard that the first developer seed of Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) was released to developers earlier this week. With that, I think now is a good time to talk about phasing out support for Leopard in XQuartz. Currently, I build and package up two releases: one for Leopard and one for Snow Leopard. I don't believe the extra labor involved to produce Leopard packages will be worth it for much longer. I intend XQuartz 2.6.1 (the next release) to be the last version of XQuartz that I ship for Leopard.
Leopard users will continue to be able to build XQuartz from MacPorts just as Tiger users are able to today. I just encourage you to install the last available XQuartz version as well (so you'll have the latest libXplugin and quartz-wm).
If you're on an Intel machine with Leopard still, I encourage you to upgrade to SL. If you're on ppc still, I'm sorry; hopefully 2.6.1 or MacPorts will serve your need.
Thanks,
Jeremy
