Lion ships with X11 that reports itself as 2.6.3, but it's not quite the 2.6.3 that I'll be releasing soon (hopefully later today or tomorrow).
The main differences between Lion's X11 and the version I'll be shipping are:
* Lion's is based on xorg-server-1.10.2, whereas XQuartz 2.6.3 will be based on xorg-server-1.10.3
* The X11 menu bar does not update until a second click of the dock icon in Lion
* Some DRI/GLX issues are present in Lion's X11 and libXplugin that will be fixed in XQuartz
* Lion's libpng is older.
Sorry for the version confusion. My original plan was to release XQuartz 2.6.3 to exactly match the Lion version, but I figured it was better to release XQuartz 2.6.3 with these additional fixes.
...
Most of the XQuartz releases will work on Lion to varying degrees, with the later versions being much more compatible with (although not "optimized for") Lion. The final release of 2.6.3 "for Snow Leopard" should be very usable on Lion, and I've been working on being able to build one version of XQuartz that will work optimally on both Snow Leopard and Lion with the release of 2.7.0.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thanks,
Jeremy
