There is only one issue with gimp that I am aware of. Newer versions of GTK (which gimp uses) can tickle a bug in some server versions and cause it to crash. The reproducible case involved the color wheel. This bug has been fixed in newer servers, so just make sure she uses XQuartz-2.7.0 or later. 2.7.1 should be out soon as well since the only issue found with rc4 has been fixed.
If there are any issues other than that, I'm certainly not aware of them, so please ask her to just try and report problems if she encounters them.
