Possibly -- on my 10.6.8 system, /usr/bin/emacs is version 22.1.1, but the
MacPorts package is 23.4. That's not the issue, however.
Macports provides an Emacs package that includes the ability to work as an
X client, which /usr/bin/emacs lacks. You'd see a whole bunch of libX*
entries in otool's output otherwise.
Be aware that, if you use the MacPorts emacs, you'll need to build and
install it with the x11 variant in order to compile in the necessary
support.
