XQuartz does not know anything about specific models of tablets. It just receives NSEvents and converts them to Xinput events. If it's not working for you, then either you have not configured gimp correctly or your tablet is not compatible with OS X. If your old tablet works fine and your new one doesn't, it's most likely that you need to get correct drivers from your tablet's manufacturer.
Run the following as tests to check what's being sent by the server.
xinput --test-xi2
xinput test pen
