How to translate an Exceed .xs file to the commands to connect via XQuartz?

Okay, I'm back to this (was trying to connect to a new SunOS box to run a new version of XyVision, now I'm connecting to an older one to run an ancient version of XyVision).

I've got a .xs file which when I reboot into Windows and double-click on it connects me --- how do I translate that to the equivalent in XQuartz so that I don't have to use Windows?

I've tried connecting with:

[William-Adamss-iMac-2:~] williamadams% ssh -y email@hidden

and then:

[orchid]wadams 2-> cd /usr/openwin/bin

but running the xterm doesn't work:

[orchid]wadams 4-> ./xterm
./xterm Xt error: Can't open display:

I've looked at the documentation, but am not finding anything which is intelligible to me, so please include suitable references...

Thanks!

William
