Hey there!
I have a Macbook 13'' late 2009, with Mountain Lion 10.8.2
I've been recently in the need of having Windows to run a program that's not even Microsoft Office, but an internet business program.
I downloaded Virtualbox, receiving error:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine hector.
Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUPLIB_WORLD_WRITABLE).
You have a problem somewhere, and it does not involve X11 at all (neither the downloadable virtualbox nor parallels uses X11, they both use the native GUI). At a guess, the same problem is why you can't get XQuartz to work.
I'm not being able to create a partition from the Disk Utilitary.
This also suggests something more fundamental is wrong; I'd be tempted to conclude, from your above error, that somehow your boot disk is read only. You probably want to boot from the recovery partition and check the drive.
