One thing we've noticed with more recent X11s: the stuff started
from .xinitrc.d runs in /, not in the user's home directory. As a
consequence, new terminals (xterms etc, not "Terminal") start in
/. We've been hacking around this by putting a "cd" in our 99.sh
file.
See if your program works after a "cd" and crashes if run from "/".
