- Thread-topic: Group membership problem
As a result (I believe) of some changes (described below) when I try to
use chgrp in an xterm shell, I get, for example, this:
[53]% chgrp ourusers ugh
chgrp: you are not a member of group ourusers
But the same command executed within Terminal.app succeeds.
The id command returns the same results in both contexts, and indicates
that I am a member of that group.
I have checked what I can think of to check, with no solution so far. I
would appreciate suggestions as to the cause and how to fix it.
Thanks
-Don
Details:
One of the remote Linux servers I use was recently converted to
authenticate via our institution's Active Directory system. After the
change, I started getting warning messages about my gid being unknown.
I was told that upon login it looks up the user's GID, and if the gid
number is not found in AD, it issues the warning. (for login it was just a
warning, but I found it prevented remote file editing using emacs) So, I
arranged to have my AD gid number changed to a number that exists in AD. I
surmise that it is this change that is causing the above issue.
