The issue is being tracked here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92640
Right now, it would be helpful to know what pre-release version the issue landed in. Additionally, it would be helpful to know if the issue is on the server side or in libGL.
1) Install 2.7.8, make a backup copy of /opt/X11/lib/libGL.1.dylib
2) Install 2.7.7, and replace its libGL.1.dylib with your backup.
3) Does the issue reproduce using 2.7.7 with newer libGL?
4) Make a backup copy of 2.7.7's /Applications/Utilities/XQuartz.app/Contents/MacOS/X11.bin
5) Install 2.7.8, and replace its X11.bin with your backup.
6) Does the issue reproduce using 2.7.8 with the older X11.bin?
