As an advocate of native UI solutions, the Mac version of my apps is Cocoa-based (actually wxWidgets-on-top-of-Cocoa - based), so my use of XQuartz on Mac is limited to testing, compiling X11-only apps, and other minor uses. However, if I'd need X11 for my everyday work, I'd prefer a 100% compliant solution, with a strong focus in OpenGL+X11 compliance (graphics is my area), so I'd probably choose another UNIX flavour for that.
I appreciate your effort because it must be difficult to maintain a current X implementation when the underlaying layers (Quartz in the case of Apple) are following diverging directions.
Thanks,
César

Yes, the team responsible for that code has indicated the same thing to me.
A fix could be made in libXplugin, but it would need to be a rather large architectural change such that libXpluin would need to record all surface layer odering (right now, it just passes on the request from X11 to OS X and doesn't maintain the state). This would be a huge effort and not worth the engineering effort. If anyone actually had such time to devote to a solution, it would be better spent working on libxcwm+XtoQ or an AppKit based Wayland compositor (+XWayland).

I just use XQ to run Inkscape, and so far I haven't had any issues in the little I've used it. It also appears that Inkscape is still standing at the same version (0.91) as when I initially installed it with XQ So, I will take your advice. If it ain't broken...

We recently were discussing some bugs in XQ 2.7.9 that have not been resolved while the version 2.7.8 works perfectly fine and I am running El Capitan 10.11.5. XQ 2.7.9 did not allow me to work with certain commands that needed forwarding over ssh and given the limited people who have been working on that fix this may cause problems for some time. I would strongly recommend from my personal experience to stick with XQ 2.7.8 if you have nothing in particular to gain from upgrading. I hope this helps a bit. Good luck!
