More precisely, when I launch it (by double-clicking on its icon) the program’s icon keeps bouncing in the Dock for a few minutes until it eventually stops, but nothing happens (i.e., no xterm window opens, and launching xterm from Terminal.app does not work either). The old version worked without problems, so I assume that there is some kind of incompatibility between 10.12.1 (and/or some other stuff in my setup) and the new version. Does anybody have any idea what may be going on?
That combination is working fine for me. You might need to do one or more
of these:
* Reinstall xquartz (if you updated macOS after installing the new xquartz)
* Log out and back in
* Replace your Dock symlink (trash it, and drag Applications/Xquartz to dock)
