If you learn the answer to this, please let me know. I had the same problem
trying to use vtk8. The OpenGL provided by macports is supposed to be version
4 or so, but vtk thinks it's only version 1.x. But if vtk is compiled to use
Cocoa instead of X11, then it uses the OpenGL provided by Apple, and works
properly.

Dear everyone,
I currently installed a software called Ovito on HPC of our school, when I run
it, it shows error message:
The OpenGL graphics driver installed on this system does not support OpenGL
version 2.1 or newer.
Ovito requires modern graphics hardware and up-to-date graphics drivers to
display 3D content. Your current system configuration is not compatible with
Ovito and the application will quit now.
To avoid this error, please install the newest graphics driver of the hardware
vendor or, if necessary, consider replacing your graphics card with a newer
model.
The installed OpenGL graphics driver reports the following information:
OpenGL vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer: AMD Radeon Pro 560X OpenGL Engine
OpenGL version: 1.4 (1.4 (2.1 ATI-2.2.8))
Ovito requires at least OpenGL version 2.1.
I type: glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version"
And I get: 2.1 ATI-2.2.8
So, I wonder which version I have for OpenGL? 1.4? or 2.1? I can run Ovito on
my personal Mac though. Please Advice. Thanks!
Best,
Chang Liu
