Haven't seen this one discussed yet. If I've got a bunch of saved
source files open, what's Xcode doing while I'm waiting up to 8
seconds (no joke) for a click in each window's close box to take
effect?

This hasn't happened to me yet, but if I were you I'd run Shark[1] and
sample the attempt to close the window. That'll at least tell you
what's going on...

Yes, and please file a bug at <http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter> with your results. I regularly have many source files open (often dozens) and I never experience delays like this. Is your project particularly large (thousands of source files)?

Dave

This occasionally happens to me, too. Once Xcode has begun to wait 20 seconds or so on -performClose messages, it will continue until I quit and re-launch it. The project I am working on is not large: 20 to 30 source files in total.
I will try to investigate the thing more closely.

When you do see it again, please file a bug and include the output of sample or SpinControl. Thanks.

Another annoying thing is that the documentation window gets noticeably slower as it accumulates its browser history.

It would be good to file a bug for this too. ;-)

Dave
