build style setting too much?

I noticed that for certain targets, for example BSD static and dynamic library target templates, the build style for the project contains a lot of settings not relevant to the difference between "debug" and "deployment". For example, library style is set in the build style, rather than in the target itself. This is an issue, since at first glance it seems like xcode is simply ignoring the target settings, when in fact they are being overridden by the build style. Is it really necessary to have those settings in the default development/deployment build styles, or can they contain just those settings that are different between development and deployment?
