more on the smb sahring problem

I've narrowed down tha bug a bit : I renamed all my files to have names
shorter than 8 characters + extension .h or .cpp (you never know with
windows sharing, even when its winXP). The problem still persists, so this
is not a filename issue.

but... I've found a far more interesting side of the problem : the issue
lies in the PROJECT file !

when I open any of the files with XCode in the project directory WITHOUT
opening the project itself, I can edit & save all i want.
However : if I first open the project (pbproj) and THEN try to edit files
from within Xcode, i get 'could not save file' erros. Upon closer
inspection, tilde files (~) have been created on the windows machine. Even
after deleting those, the problem persists. Even TextEdit can now no longer
open those files untill I reboot.

wicked wicked wicked

can ANYONE give me a suggestion what to try next ? Is there some hidden
setting in XCode or smb to configure ? (not : I tried both "save files
writeable" and "save res forks" on and off to no avail)

any help GREATLY appreciated since I've been struggling with this for 2 days
now...
