It seems to magically have started working for me now too. I
previously set all the environment variables in my
~/.MacOSX/environment.plist and hoped that would work, but it wasn't
enough. I managed to set Xcode to Perforce and put my P4PORT and
P4CLIENT in the project settings and left the P4USER and P4PASSWD to
the environment. I just had to wait for it to do a sync on its own to
pick up the settings and it seems to work now.
I agree I was being a little harsh on Xcode but I hope people picked up
that it comes from a place of great admiration. I think Apple's got a
great technology core and is close to something that would be
incredibly useful for lots of people. I think that if Apple put the
iApp UI polish on Xcode a lot of people would use it to do great
things. I can certainly deal with its issues and I'll continue posting
comments here and elsewhere in hope for great things from Apple (as
I've seen throughout many areas of OS X).
