Unfortunately I just installed Panther and the dev tools without much
reading (in the assumption that the installer will do the right
thing)... I should have known it better...
How to get a clean install of XCode now? Calling the
uninstall-devtools.pl script, removing the whole Developer directory
and just doing a clean install of XCode afterwards?
Thank you in advance

No, you run the script at /Developer/Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl

In general when setting up development systems, my workflow is to
deinstall the Jaguar tools, do the Panther upgrade, then install
Xcode.
This give you the most current development environment without
possibility of ambiguity.
Regarding the first step, "deinstall the Jaguar tools". What is the
procedure? Do I simply trash/remove the entire folder "/Developer"?
