Prachi,

Copying the doc from the DVD to your machine's root volume isn't supported (yet). The DVD doesn't include the full-text indexes, explaining why that feature disappeared after you replaced the installed doc. Running pbhelpindexer should have restored the API search feature, but obviously something was amiss and probably resulted in corrupt or incomplete indexes--disabling that feature as well.

You'll need to reinstall the developer tools (run /Developer/Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl first to start out with a clean slate) to get the doc search features working again.

Having a robust way to let users access the latest doc content at all times is very high on our priority list. Sorry the feature isn't there yet.

Hi everyone. I got the quarterly DVD in the ADC mailing today, and I replaced the documentation on my machine with the updated documentation on the DVD. After doing that, I found that I couldn't search for anything in Xcode anymore. I tried running 'sudo pbhelpindexer' in the Terminal, but it outputted the following lines 472 times:

No class/interface name found in this file!
No type information (class, interface) found in this file!
Use of uninitialized value in string eq at /Developer/Tools/pbhelpindexer line 398.
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /Developer/Tools/pbhelpindexer line 319.
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /Developer/Tools/pbhelpindexer line 323.
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /Developer/Tools/pbhelpindexer line 301.
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /Developer/Tools/pbhelpindexer line 303.

Obviously something went wrong, and while I can now find some things, I can't find others. For example, if I search for "string", I can't find anything in the API search, though searching for "standardUserDefaults" brings up the appropriate method.

Also, I get no Full-Text Search results at all except for Xcode help.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

-Prachi
