At least, it works fine for me.

Well, maybe...

But for me, if I have a file open in Debug editor (e.g. last break was there), in main editor, and in find editor, and try to do some editing, I will notice significant slowdown (to the point of computer not being able to process my typing without spinball). Obviously, the three editors need to be updated...

So, it does not work at all, even if we ignore the UI opinions...

And if I have a focus on one window, with given size and position, I would really like to keep working there.

You can think of the panels as navigation windows, and editor as work window. You navigate through your project using many navigation windows (including main project window - it is primarily about navigation), some just sometimes visible, some always visible, but you work in one or more work windows (editors). This is a mental model that supports many different ways of work and navigation (all optional), but does not confuse the user if consistently implemented...

At least one should not prevent navigational ability of supporting panels. This is really a big step back. Since I do not use Java nor Subversion, I am thinking of working with 1.2 and waiting for the next Xcode.
