 I can't find a way to navigate to the install directory, which
is "/usr/local/lib/"

When a file dialog is up, you can type pretzel-shift-G (same as in Finder) to bring up a dialog in which you can type a path (with tab-completion). (This isn't Xcode-specific, BTW.)


I suppose I could copy the files to an accessible place

This does have the advantage of linking with a known version... --
