Segment of NSSegmentedControl autosizing?

The documentation of NSSegmentedControl says:

- (void)setWidth:(float)width forSegment:(int)segment
Sets the width, in points, for the specified segment. Specifying width of 0 means autosize to fit.

But this last assertion is not true: using the width 0 just yields a very small segment. Does anyone know a way to REALLY have a segment that autosize to fit?
