If I remember correctly, checking that checkbox means that the build phase will only be run when an 'install' action is taking place. Currently, there are two ways to get this:

1) 'xcodebuild install ...' from the command line

2) 'Deployment Location' is set in the target or active build style

That said, the checkbox at least needs some re-wording or re-thinking. Please file a bug.

Clearly *you* think what I was doing was a deployment build, and *I* think
what I was doing was a deployment build, but Xcode does *not* think it was a
deployment build (or at leas'Det this checkbox does not think so), since the
shell script did not run. Therefore I am wondering what this checkbox thinks
*is* a deployment build.

FWIW, I've never been able to get that check box to work in any version
of Xcode, or Project Builder before it

OK, thanks. Apple, I'd recommend that either this checkbox should work as
expected or, if that's not feasible, you should just take it away. (This is
a good example of how bad interface can seriously waste the user's time!) m.
