Subversion 1.1 has an fsfs backing store. That is, a pure filesystem based backing store. It is actually quite responsive. 1.1 should be out "soon" (hopefully soon being sooner than the "soon" that was used to describe the SVN 1.1 rc releases, what, 1 year before the actual release :).


Though this is IMO much better - as far as I know - it's still a binary format. Personally I don't get these warm fuzzy feelings about subversion just yet.
