what exactly does "Enable Guard Malloc" do?

I am wondering what exactly "Enable Guard Malloc" in the Debug does?

Does it set these environment variables?
	DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES=/usr/lib/libgmalloc.dylib
	DYLD_FORCE_FLAT_NAMESPACE=1

Does it set this one?
	MALLOC_ALTIVEC_SIZE=1

Does it do anything else?
