Hi:
A week or so ago I posted a problem with Xcode 1.5 not finding the
linker. Actually, the problem was not an Xcode problem at all, but I
think the problem/solution may be of interest.
In order to solve an entirely different problem (involving setting
$PATH), I had written a .profile file, and put it in ~. This is not a
good idea. It looks as though the system reads the .profile file, and
updates and writes the file ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist as a result. The
effect was to put rubbish into the $PATH variable.
Solution: remove .profile file and edit .MacOSX/environment.plist file
so that the PATH <key> contains a sensible string.
Interesting (but unsurprisingly) this solves some other problems as
well...like getting latex equation editor to work etc.
Moral: read the technical notes first (specifically Technial Q&A QA1067).
