- Thread-topic: Packaging Issues...
I've got a couple of issues related to making Packages and
Meta-Packages.
First, I noticed after deinstalling Dec2002 Developer Tools and
performing a clean install of XCode that the "package" command-line
script was missing. We use this script to automate our nightly build
process which is driven by shell scripts. I had to copy the script over
from another machine. Is there a reason why this script was removed?
It would be a great inconvenience to use the Package Maker gui every
time I wanted to make a package.
My second issue has to do with when a meta-package is
installed/upgraded. It may actually be a Panther issue but I would like
to know if there is a workaround.
On Jaguar, when a user goes to upgrade a meta-package (meaning they have
already installed it once), the "Easy Install" will select any packages
that the user selected the first time if he/she chose "Custom Install"
the first time. Basically, if a package within the meta-package is not
installed by default, but the user selected it the first time, it should
be upgraded by default the next time the user runs the installer. This
does not happen on Panther. During an upgrade on Panther, only the
default packages are selected, even if other packages were installed
during the first install. For our meta-package, this means someone
could complete an "Easy Upgrade" but not completely upgrade our entire
product. Is there a way to fix this? A special setting or something?
Has anyone else run into this?
