Can you ssh to the server using only public keys? Given the set up you
describe, you should be able to. If not, then your problems lie in
how the remote system is configured (if the permissions on, say,
AuthorizedKeys, are just a tiny bit too permissive, sshd won't let you
in!).
The thing at the end of the key is just a identifier for humans to
read. It is not used by ssh.
