Building and packaging PostgreSQL using XCode

I have DL'd the 7.4.1 tar ball for Postgres but as an exercise I would like to use XCode to build and package it.
However the standard distribution uses configure, make, and make install all from a Terminal window.
I can do that but it seems so 70's (when I started in the game <grin>) to work that way nowadays when we have much nicer tools.

BTW I have DL'd and installed the Marc Liyanage package and it works great.
It's just that I'd like to understand how to do that sort of thing myself.

TIA and

respect.....

Peter
